how are you generating power for the heater and light - it doesn't seem to be a sustainable method to me.

are you growing plants that suit your climate?

you are spoilt - the cheapest land i have found within a 5 hour drive is $100,000 for 3 acres, no house, no power/telephone and on a slope that means it is no good for farming - at least conventional farming

leave some dandelions in a bucket of water for a week, that smelt good/bad enough that it had to be good for the garden

try stewing rhubarb with orange and a little sugar, then serve with roasted duck or maybe pork belly or shoulder

how about newspaper - or lots and lots of mulch - or grow something that will out compete the grass

once nasturtiums are settled, they keep the grass down here

my plum and fig guild consists of peas, beans, nasturtium, mint and garlic so far
