I bought a Green Works model last year and have been quite pleased with it. The model I bought was an 18"cut 24 volt self-propelled model. I only use this mower for trimming, mulching leaves and where the rider may cause injury in trying to mow slopes and ditches. I have used it to mow the lawn just to see what it could do on a full charge and found that it took 2 charges to work at it's full potential on a 1/4 acre lot. I would not use it on overgrown lawns as it would bog down quicker than a gas mower. If your intent is to use as a primary mower I would recommend a 40 volt model or larger.

This thread caught my eye, so i felt compelled to respond.
Money has always been a necessary evil shall we say. As well as a way of consolidating the things we need. For instance you wouldn't take a trip across country hauling 200 gallons of gas, whereas money for gas is a way of consolidating your load to travel across country to allow for your trip to be enjoyable without being a burden. While on the other hand money isn't always needed to obtain things you may need or want, when you consider that most things can be obtained without money by bartering. I have found that I can barter for most items thereby eliminating the need for money to obtain what I need or want as well as helping out the other person to obtain their needs. Which frees me to have a more enjoyable lifestyle at the same time.

I noticed that some burn punky wood and twigs and such as a fuel source. So my question is how small of pieces can one burn? I'm a woodworker and quite often my scrap barrel will be filled with small pieces of wood. While I can burn some pretty small pieces in a conventional wood burner, I was wondering if there is a limit of how small of pieces you can burn. I often will have pieces the size of quarters and dimes that I pick up to keep from jamming up my dust collection system and would like to burn them.

New to the forum, but not to sustainable and alternate lifestyle living. While I have forgotten most of what I grew up with as a kid. I am looking to revive that in my retirement years. Have been an urban dweller far to long and plan to go back to a sustainable lifestyle. We plan to move from our home in 5 years, so I'm looking to put permaculture back into my lifestyle and practice, in the meantime to prepare for the move that will allow me to do more of this lifestyle. I'm fortunate to have about a 1/4 acre lot at this time to start putting this into practice. I use to raise chickens and look forward to be able to raise fowl and livestock when we move. In the meantime while I'm where I'm at I want to start bee keeping and gardening. One of the things I want to do is to learn to harvest seeds from the garden to plant the following year as well. I'm sure there will be more that I will be able to learn and do before moving and am grateful for this forum to help with my questions as I do my research and learn to get of the grid. What drew me to this site was Rocket stove mass heaters which I have questions about, and am glad that the forum topics cover more than just heaters. Thanks for allowing me to be a member.
