I own an organic farm in the Kootenay Boundary region of Southern British Columbia (an hour east of Osoyoos). I am looking for a reliable, hard working, self motivated, cool, intelligent, active, interesting person or persons keen to experience rural life. Tending animals, creating gardens and field crops, and building projects using natural and local materials are just some of the things that you will be involved in. I have two kids young kids that stay with me part time and I also have to go to Vancouver for film work throughout the year, so there would be times where you would be alone on the farm looking after things. Looking for long and short term volunteers and potential long term residents that are interested to learn and live this way. All summer long we work, and play outside. Jewel Lake is a short walk from the farm. There you can swim and sail on my small sailboat all summer long! there are tons of trails to hike and explore. Jewel Creek runs through the property and is FULL of trout. There is excellent deer hunting around the property come Fall.
As a side note, I am a brewer as well and in the process of building a 2BBL nano brewery, on the farm using ingredients from the farm... so needless to say, there is always yummy craft brewed beer on tap.

Here is a short couple videos showing the 1200' long gravity feed irrigation system that I setup which has been a huge success and has since then been working, providing us clean water for the gardens for the past 2 years. With the exception of a few short service interruptions due to bears biting a few holes in the line, it has worked FLAWLESSLY! Improvements we have made since building it originally include a large 1000L holding tank just below the original barrel vessel and a spin out screen filter to avoid debris from plugging up the sprinklers. This small spring flows year round although in late summer early fall slows to a trickle. By placing the large tote there, we can let the trickle fill the tank overnight and water the gardens in the morning and night. Its works essentially like a small dam holding up the flow. I spend about 1-3 hours annually maintaining this system! not bad and no power needed! Enjoy!

We did a bit of terracing on an otherwise unusable due south facing slope. I wanted to build this as way to increase the size of the garden and provide a great place to grow primarily fruit trees. This is the first area that is snow free in the spring due to its orientation to the sun and the amount of stone on the walls and ground. Hope this inspires some people to try to do the same! Enjoy!

As the title suggests, we built a working mock-up of the rocket mass stove in my kids' sandbox. I have been super keen on building one and learning about them for a while, so one day, having all the parts we needed to do it, with the help of a couple friends we put this together to test if the concept worked using clay chimey flue. It seemed to work really well. Here is the video of that first burn. Enjoy!

what do you think? what have I done right and what have I done wrong. It was done a little late in the season, but the peas, mustard and clover grew well and produced much food for the deer! LOL anyway Enjoy!

just wanted to share a video about the waterwheel I built on my creek. It was the system I thought was best after much surveying of the land and creek, observing the water level over the seasons and considering many other technologies. There isn't enough head to run a turbine setup and with our cold winters (freezing up the creek for a couple months a year) and debris that comes down the creek (plugging up jets for a turbine setup) an old school style backshot waterwheel seemed like the best choice. It allows for debris and fish to pass over the wheel without damaging the equipment or injuring the animals. There is no big diversion setup or screens needed (which need tending too regularly) and the power produced is enough to run the house from. Check out the video I shot from last summer. This summer we are hooking it up to our batteries and a larger inverter inside the house. Enjoy!
