We have 2 ducks that are about 5 weeks old. This is our first time raising ducks. 1 is a female mallard and the other is a mystery duck. I thought it was going to be a mallard but I don't think it is. All black, black feet & bill with a few white feathers on its chest. We have been putting the ducklings outside during the day since it is getting warmer. They spent one warmer night outside but otherwise I have been bringing them in since it has been too cold. When outside, they are happy and wander around near us foraging for bugs and weeds. But when we go inside and they are left alone they stand at the back door peeping and pooping. I made a fenced area for them in the back of the yard with a house, small pool, food and water. I put them in the pen when we are not outside to keep them from pooping in front of my door. They just pace the fence when they are left outside alone. They never go in their house. The one night they spent outside I had to put them in the house and block the door to keep them in because when they were not pacing the fence they were just huddled along the fence waiting for us to come back. Even in the house instead of going on the soft shavings and being comfortable they were up against the door on the wood. I am worried about stress on them when they just pace the pen back and forth. Are they just too attached to us? Or do they just need some time to get used to it? I went out today and moved their house into another corner, in their pacing path so they would find their food and water. I saw them go in it for the first time. They don't really care to be picked up or messed with so I didn't think they were too attached. We handled them daily since day 1 but they still don't like it. They won't eat out of my hand unless I have pees and even then it is hard to get them to come up to me. Am I doing something wrong?
