I have rented a small commercial unit with a large black rolladoor facing North! (here in Australia, North is the hot side!)
I will ask permission to paint the rolladoor a light colour but doubt it will be granted for reasons of visual amenity. (All the other rolladoors in the complex are black).
I am looking for a low cost method of reducing the solar gain from this door. It is almost 2 stories high and there is an open mezzanine facing it. I would like to either hang an insulating curtain or build some kind of internal insulating structure or apply a reflective product to the door that will decrease some of the heat impact.
As I am just renting the unit and will need to get the owner's permission, it will limit my options and how much I want to spent.
Though we rarely need to open it for full access, its quite pleasant to open during moderate weather, so I don't really want to seal it off entirely, but that may be the best option. Cold will be an issue in winter too, though in this climate heat is more of an issue than cold.
I'd appreciate any suggestions!
