Hanging clothes outside in the winter works really well if it is cold enough and dry enough. What you get is freeze drying. The water is evaporated and not frozen into the clothing. Just like freeze dried foods.

i used to harvest almost half a tub every other day. To keep up nutrients I had hooked it into my aquaponics set up and and Liquid Gold fertilizer (which was always fun being the tub was on our roof.

I use to grow a bath tub of duckweed to feed my tilapia it worked really well. Though I live in the tropics so it is easier here for year round

I was thinking this as well. I feel the problem would be the lateral strength of a rammed earth wall. Being that there is not as solid of cohesion as a stone or concrete wall.

It may work with proper reinforcing. Though when i read the underground house book it seemed he was using rammed earth he just left the forms in place. I believe he would put up some boards add plastic the ram the earth behind it.

You can use a inner tube but you may need two pieces to make it strong enough. We sometimes use a piece of tire that we shave down so it is more flexible.

Mostly it is used in the developing world. The reason for being pvc is it is light and easy to find (+cheap). We can put a bunch of the parts for these on planes or walk them in.  Metal pumps are heavy and fall apart real quickly especially dragon pumps (the bane of Chinese production). The pump is great as well for mobility. We used one to water fields all we did was pick it up and move it along the river. when we wanted to water set the end down in the river and pump away.

SO These are two photos I could find as my other comp is dead. First one is the pump installed in a Underground tank. Second is our new adaptation to the wooden valve.

OK Paul asked me to post about the rus pump.

The Rus pump is a pump my good friend Rus Alit Came up with probably over 30yrs Ago in Tonga i believe (it could have been Samoa).

I have attached the World Vision Brochure.

I will post some pics as well to better explain.
