I've been snooping around for the last few weeks reading about all the wonderful things all you people are doing, planning, or just dreaming, and finally decided I want to be a part of it. I'm an older college student looking to graduate next year, and I've found myself more and more depressed with the current state of affairs. Global warming, politics, social justice, it's been easy for me to take interest in almost any topic I can read online in order to mask the dissatisfaction and anxiety in my own life. I've inadvertently stumbled on the way to escape the rat race before I've even joined it. So I may be several years away from 'starting', but that just means more time to research, right?
It might just be my summer break getting to me, but I picked up a favorite book from my childhood this week to read again. It occurs to me that permaculture might be the way towards the "enlightened" cultures found in so many fantasy stories. Relatively self-sufficient communities that live with nature, and hold in high esteem generosity, good food and good wine, fine craftsmanship, and living simply but beautifully. Silly musings, but I can't help but see the parallels when I read about landraces, cob houses, pemmican, or so-and-so's favorite cordial.
Anyway, I'm very pleased to have found permies!
