We use step-in posts for the electric fence for our cattle paddocks, and I'm trying to come up with a good way to carry all the posts from one paddock to the next. A fence post sized quiver would be good, it seems like! Anyone have good ways to carry all the posts when moving paddocks? I"m probably trying to carry 30 or so, and right now using a canvas sling that is for carrying firewood. It's better than nothing, but still frustrating.

My propane fridge quit, and I'm planning to replace it with an electric fridge. I'm looking at Energy Star rated appliances but wonder what other people have found work best for them off-grid? I'm not interested in trying to keep ice in an insulated box and haven't yet heard of other cooling methods that seem really effective, but I do have a PV system in place so I think I just want to go with electric. It could be DC or AC but the main thing is that I want as large a fridge capacity as possible, so I'm looking at models without a freezer included. We have a chest freezer that runs on DC and it suits our freezer space needs fine. Any recommendations for fridges that are good on energy consumption?

We moved to our farm last year, and there is a "building" that seems to have been used as half firewood storage (metal roof/walls for that part) and half greenhouse (glass panels for walls). The greenhouse half currently has no roof, and only a couple 2x4 supports in the roof, and I think it must have been covered with plastic. I was thinking of getting polycarbonate corrugated panels to cover that area, since I want light to come through, but I'm wondering if there are better choices. What all have you used and been happy with, or used and not been happy with? Thanks!

Thanks for the article, and I'm glad you mentioned saw dust! I happen to have a very large pile of it from poplars that were logged this spring on our farm, and it was one of the things I was contemplating using for mulch! I also have some composted poultry manure that I'll put down first (been meaning to get to that anyway!)

I suspect there is mold in my sawdust, because it is a very large pile of fresh sawdust, but it sounds like that will be okay, too.

Steve, do you leave space between the canes and the the mulch? I have 1000 raspberry plants to mulch and am wondering if it is worth the extra effort to clear that space around the canes or not.

It seems like it's usually okay to use moldy hay as mulch- is it okay to use it to mulch new raspberry plants?
