This is an interesting thread to me because im dealing with a very steep slope myself. Part of the property had been a gravel pit dug into a hill then abandoned and left for 50+ years. Over the years, trees at the top have fallen out and decayed causing colluvial soil to taper off the drop at the bottom. In the lowest flat part of the pit a vernal pond forms every year and generally lasts until late summer. But during rainy times the entire basin at the bottom floods. Ive found using the fallen large trucks placed in diagonals has slowed the flooding considerably and over the years have decayed into soil mounds as the always eroding hill slides down into them. I have walnut trees near the base and mulberries on the flat within the flood zone. Now that the flood levels are less ive been planting fruits (apples and peaches) in the area between the base of the hill and the edge of the flood zone.
