I realize this thread is older but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Very insightful. I’ve lived in 5 states but it’s always been a dream of mine to get off grid in Montana or Idaho. Recently I found a 355 acre property in yellow pine ID with two rivers flowing through it. Perfect for hydro power and its cool to see others are doing it and proving success in that area/climate.
