There's a photo of me in a 1990s issue of Newsweek. It shows me standing in the middle of a garden in what had been an unused plot of land in an inner-city Los Angeles public school. Wearing my three piece suit (yes, they were required where I worked), holding a shovel and my gardenig gloves, I had spent three months teaching kids where carrots came from. They thought they came from the orange bag in the produce section. Once they had fresh carrots they had grown themselves, their lives were forever changed. I want to do more of that.
