Hello! Recently, we had an F2 tornado hit our area and several old growth trees took the force of the winds. We lost a hackberry that sits on the NE corner of the backyard. It took out some of the concrete and fence and landed on our neighbor’s carport (eeek but thankfully no vehicles damaged)…anyway, he had all of the crown removed that was on his property and we have about a 6-7’ tall stump (leaning) left on ours.
Wonder what some options you’d consider doing other than obvious “hire a tree guy to get rid of it” - would love some creative or practical use, if there are any!
A tad about our backyard: we do not mow the back and allow for most all wild things to grow (we do hand remove Paper Mulberry saplings that like to pop up)…its mostly goldenrod and asters and violets (and all the early spring greens that have come and gone by now) that grow among herbs and veggies (passionflower, hops, elder, mugwort, mother wort, tulsi, oregano, thyme, chamomile, basils, sages, comfrey, burdock, yarrow, St. John’s wort, nettles, elecampane, eleuthero root, agrimony, tomatoes, okra, peppers, squashes, greens, radishes, eggplants, garlics, onions, etc). The veggies are among two hugel beds, the herbs are in herb spirals or patches all around, and the rest is wild and does what it wants. So I would love to come up with a way to “honor” this tree’s life by coming up with something for the stump.
Thanks!
