I live on a loud road and was thinking of using barrels as planters side by side (filled mostly with rock). I was thinking of putting a post inside each barrel to make the wall taller and filling the opening on top with topsoil so I can plant in them as well. I have two steel barrels I have planted in for 4 years now and still no holes from rust. I live in Colorado so the barrels are only irrigated in the summer. The goal of this wall would be sound insulation. Any thoughts? I could place the barrels occasionally as the structural pieces and fill the space between with straw bales. Was wondering if anyone has ever done or seen this?
