Hey all! Appreciate this forum. We bought a house with a spring fed water system last year and the system seems pretty solid. We have a cistern in a small pond and piping running underground from the cistern about 1.5 miles to our pump house, I believe all gravity fed.
My question is about cistern and pond maintenance. I’m pretty sure the cistern should have any algae or other debris removed from it regularly, but correct me if I am wrong. What about the water plants that are growing in the pond? If I’m going to pull them, I should probably shut the water off for a period of time to let the disturbed dirt resettle before allowing the cistern to refill. But do I need to remove the water plants? Any other maintenance tips also appreciated! TIA
