I have a garden plot that is thick with pine trees. I don't have the heart to cut them all down, as birds nest in them.
So I decided to start winding them together tight, and letting them grow into each other.
No clue if it will work. Just figured wood lasts longer if it's a live tree.
Hoping to use it to create a live fence /wind block around my bee apiary, and to grow vines on.

If it fails, there's always the chainsaw.

Scratch this. The barrels lose the strength when cut down center lengthwise. It's doable but not worth my time. If only the barrels were big enough tofit a langstroth frame inside, Id use it as an out shell (wind block) in winter.

I am undertaking this adventure this weekend.  I will try and post updates on YouTube ( @JustBees ).
I have the luxury of foodsafe 55 gal white barrels & a ton of cement blocks. Plus sensors & solar powered camera for monitoring.

Im no content creator. Just an adventurous beekeeper focused on sustainable beekeeping.
Haven't lost a colony in several years and still have the queens from several years ago (plus the colonies they spawned) .  (My dormancy/suppression tactics seem to allow queens to rest when a build up isnt needed. I believe I know what is causing the workers to not develop ovaries during dormancy beyond queen pheromones).

Im not going to bore others with updates.

You'd think the fall is the worst time ever to start this and youre probably right. I got some tough bees. They seem to be indestructible.
