I'm new to cordage, but its kinda taking over the garage, and my hubby is not too happy!
Anyway in reply to breaking down the flax to use as cordage, I'm quite impatient, so I pull the flax over one of those florist frog things with nails/ikebana? It leaves me with a reasonably fine thread, which you can then use to make cordage. It gives a great result without much effort. You can dry overnight, or use green, with a little shrinkage.
