I’m doing a few things to my corner post assemblies. I tape off the post top and spray flex seal to prevent water penetration. I use the wire tension strainer instead of wood twists. I then wrap the tension wire and push up the knot on each side. The tension holds very tight pulling in the horizontal bar. Use foam seal around joints, cut excess and spray again with flex seal.
