Biography
I love working with my hands and pondering life's questions. I joined Permie's because I saw some of the videos, and have lurked on here for a couple days, and realized that Permaculture might be the very thing I have been looking for in my life.
Its a breath of fresh air, I feel like this is something I am meant for!
Quick history on me:
I grew up every summer on my family farm in Ohio, my great grandfather passed before I graduated high-school and his 11 children fought over it, and sold the property piece by piece, and house by house.
Learning about Permie's, and reading the story about Mike Oehler. It really struck a cord with me on a personal level.
I wish I was old enough to save my grandfathers farm.
So this is my quest to learn the skills required, and make some friends along the way, to get back in touch with nature, and my roots!
(Sorry pun intended)
A brief career history on myself:
US Army- 10 years
Heavy diesel mechanic- 3 years
Operations/Logistics Coordinator- 3 years
Skills:
Gardening- Although I may be in a fourth floor apartment that doesn't stop me from building my own grow tent for my cooking herbs and pepper plants.
Pepper Variety- Tangerine dream, Shishito
Herbs- Garlic, Garlic Scape's, Parsley, Green Onion, Thyme, English Lavender
Rock-hounding/gold-panning- I have collected enough tools to start this hobby! I am a beginner, yet I am diving in head first this spring!
Woodworking- Beginner as well, I have joined a few forums, carved a few things, and will be building (proper) a tool list for this spring.
--I WILL UPDATED SKILL LIST AS I PROGRESS--
Thank you for reading this, I am looking forward to getting to know everyone, and to learn a few things along the way!
Cheers!

"How do you make sure a community is right for you, in your opinion?"

Well, I guess what are you looking for in a community, how grassroots would you like to go? lol

Check this website out, they have a pretty good descriptions of established communities you can use them to do most of the legwork for you.

I attached a screen shot of a community I was going to reach out to.

That sounds like a dream tbh, My fiancee and I have been searching for a place, yet we have hit some financial issues ourselves.

if luck turns around for us I will have to reach out again!
I haven't found much in New England, you might get some luck somewhere in the Midwest or down south, but I would recommend thoroughly vetting the communities before hand.

Another question I would like to ask, I can start another thread if necessary, what would be good woodworking tools to start with so I can carve the bow?

I am relatively new in the woodworking field and looking online has been daunting, if it is just a good knife and patience then I have that in spades lol!

All in all, I really appreciate all the help!

https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/about/

I was stumbling through the internet the other day, and I found this website, It is solar powered and goes over different ideas for floor heaters/coffee makers etc. that is all solar powered, I figured we might get a kick out of it!

I think it is pretty neat because the website is ran off of solar, and has some pretty cool ideas there!

What do you guys think of it?

In the hypothetical, I would get a couple steaks, a case of yuengling, and invest the rest. (4th floor apartment in the city)

We have been pretty good growing our own veggies, I am looking into building some solar powered equipment as well, so maybe that?
