Looks like the problem on the Braeburn apple could be from apple magots. Extremely Small fles in the spring are the culprits. I successfully used small red Christmas balls dipped in clean motor oil to deter the flies from laying their eggs on emerging fruit. They are attacted by what looks like a nice red ripe apple. A great spot to lay their eggs. The oil on the christmas orniments create a "fly papper" like surface traping the tiny fly.
