Howdy!   Came here looking for nesting box ideas because my Blue Swedish couple, Heckle & Jeckline were looking into a pile of twigs/branches. Jeckline just started laying this week and now I think they want an apartment.
After reading around a bit, I think I want to do a Large pet carrier.  Take the door off, cover the top with a (foil blanket?) at least a towel for insulation, chips and pine for the bottom.  Easy to hose out and dry in the sun.   We live in the woods in a burb of Charlotte, NC.

Their enclosure is a chain link dog kennel with pavers for easy hosing every morning.  My idea is to put the carriers on 4 ropes with a pully so I can simply raise the carrier (even if there is a duck in there) and hose off the pavers without getting everything wet.    I don't like the idea of the chemicals off gassing onto my ducks with a tub.   I can easily find used carriers online (Facebook Market place/Craig's list).

Side note*  I found really great feed from "New Country Organics".  Buy it directly from them - it is twice as much on Amazon!   The bag I ordered is specifically for teenager ducks to promote laying.  I went through 1 bag and a week into the 2nd, Priscilla started laying and a month later, Jeckline started laying. Yayyyy!

Sadly, our Mr. Handsome was decapitated by a fox.  I am sure he would be so proud of his Lady Priscilla.  I saw the foxes twice and the red one was IN the duck yard!   They used to free range but after what happened they have to be escorted.

After this bag is finished I will switch the feed to an adult recipe.  I AM NOT A PAID SPOKESPERSON for this company.  I just share what I believe to be a good idea.   I also give them bird seed, sunflower seeds, dried worm larvae and they forage.

Going to look for cat carriers now.  Thanks for reading.
