Because, half of a generation ago, someone commented on the delicious flowers, just to note for future readers :no no no.
There are 2 kinds of locust that are very common throughout the world, Gleditsia triacanthos, the Honey Locust under discussion here, and Robinia pseudoacaicia, Black Locust.
The thorns are different, (Robinia has single thorns, Gleditsia clusters), leaves are different ((Robina has larger not-glossy leaflets) etc. At first glance, they can be confused.
Robina has delicious delicious flowers in the spring. The flavor is so fresh and delicate it seems it would be lost in a fritter, though scores of recipes exist. Enjoy.
Gleditsia flowers are poisonous.
Likewise, the seedpods of Heney Locust (Gleditsia) are divine. Honey is right. The ground seeds make a rich gluten free flour.
The seedpods if the Black Locust (Robina) are poisonous (not sure about for animals but def for humans). Do not eat.
Thank you for your attention to this matter lol
