This is soooo cool. Thanks for posting. It is sad thing that you have to take it down, I would have hired you to build one in my house regardless of what my wife would say. Anyway, I am planning to build one myself. I have a question that is general to all rocket mass heater though. Maybe you know the answer well. When the fire die down say when you want to clean the ash out, do you have a lot of smoke coming from the wood feed??

That seems to be a great idea.
On the meantime, it suggests that one may be able to use to wire that were mean to heat up the copper water piping (used for warming up the house) to prevent freeze and burst during winter for, say when one need to go on to a trip.

Something like this or something more powerful:

It is outside, so it will not subject of smoke deposit. Just need to be of high enough heating, I suppose.

Should this work? if this wire heat up large section of the chimney pipe, it should still work?

Dear all,

Thanks for including me on the forum.

I learn about the rocket stove mechanism after I have already installed a nice soapstone wood burning stove that has secondary burning tubes in it. Nice, but lot of heat is lost in the chimney. I am thinking disconnecting the stove outlet tube from the chimney and then connect it to a "rocket" mechanism put next to it, and have the outlet tube of the rocket connect back to the chimney. Do you think it would work? I think it should although I think I need to install a removable fan to create the draft (between the rocket and the chimney) when I start a fire. Once it gets going, then remove the fan and cover the tube back.

Any thoughts at all?

Many thanks in advance.
