The other problem with a lease is that they can still sell the property and then you'll have a new land lord you didn't get to pick. I agree it is not the best option, but it is an option.

If you go to the city they can tell you how much subdivision is and who owns the land you are interested in.

Question: why that area? I for one plan to get a team together, find the money and buy some paradise in Ecuador. The climate and costs are much better for people like us there. If you are interested...

OH...! never tought this would happend...! I'm from Ecuador, I live near Quito in a place called El Valle de Los Chillos 1 hour from Quito, I'm studing architecture and I'm planning going to Canada for a Master degree in University of Toronto, so living there is an option...

Tell me where are you planning to buy some land any particular city?, since here in Ecuador we have 3 regions, Sierra, Costa y Oriente and... 4th Galapagos Islands....

Siera: Cold (for us, but it never snows so is not that cold.... ), Oriente is on the Amazonas side, so is really wet weather and some times it gets really hot..... Costa = Hot most of the time but beautiful paradise next to the beach as you said.....!

The other option is to get a 25 year lease or something. I think they can do that without the trouble of dealing with subdivision.

Thank you for the avise, I think lease is a good idea but not the best option, once the 25 year agreement is over, if they are not honest they can keep your house... is only a thought, you need to know you are dealing with honest people...!

Then, how difficult and expensive is to legally subdivide it...?
Hi, just wondering if this is possible:

I have seen in google maps, some BIG land areas, so, If someone (near Mississauga -for example-) has 5, 10, 50, 100+ acres, and you ask them to sell you just 1 acre - for constructing a small house- ... and they agree... which is the next step, in order to make that piece of land yours...? is it possible..?

Thank you for any answer
