Hi Allen,

There is a lot of stuff out there to read....and I am sure lots of it is junk too. Already seen a few things which just seem so wrong!!!

Hence being on here and asking....reading...learning and being grateful for the advice and pointers....thank you.

Have got three barrels to have a play with....just trying to find some pipe.

Looking for a one piece 150mm / 6inches diameter but thinking I might have to go with two pieces or three of 100mm/4 inches.....just because I can get that for free!!

Thanks again,

One : you are creating one of the most efficient Wood burning units ''In the World " and then letting most of the heat radiate to the outdoors,
Simply Burying your exhaust pipe in a box of sand/Thermal Mass is preferable to allowing 60% of your heat to be exhausted to the environment !

Two : The barrel is vital to achieving even the 40% of prompt heating expected off of the RMH, No barrel and all you have is a way to burn wood
efficiently, and Zero Way to provide useful Warming !

When the barrel goes on the vertical chimney must go up, This is a mandatory step that is required by the Physics of the RMHs operation, You
can not even expect to test your RMH (out of doors ) without following up the setting in place of the barrel w/o immediately erecting your vertical
chimney !

Cast your net around you, hopefully you will find someone with previous experience in RMH building in time to make and test a few conventional
designs before your july event ! For the craft !

Think like fire, flow like a Gas, Don't be the Marshmallow ! As always your comments and questions are solicited and welcome ! Big AL !

Hi, thanks for the response. It would be good to make a thermal mass heater but I do not believe that is viable for this event. It will be out doors in a state forest, for one day. The heater needs to turn up and be removed the next day. I was looking at maximise the heat I can produce with little wood for a short time...mainly whilst a spit roast dinner is being eaten. Then removed.
However I am interested in making one for home. It will be an experiment at first and then maybe i'll look at putting one in the house or undercover seating area.

Hello,
I am a new member and a new person to wood heating.

I have come across this site because I am looking at heating options for keeping people warm outdoors at a Christmas in July event in Australia.

I started off with the simple cut barrel and burn wood. Looking on line I came across a barrel with cast iron door and chimney. Something I could easily make using just steel. The barrels would of been a one off use.

Doing more research I came across a rocket barrel and then the rocket barrel mass heater.

Awesome and surprised I have not seen more of them here....but that is another story.

My question for now is...
Are their any simple plans to make a rocket barrel heater without the mass?

I will not have time to make several of these. Also the event is in a state forest. Approx. 150 people so looking to make a couple of heaters.

Thanks for your time in replying.
I have done a search but not found what I am looking for.
