I just purchased a lot and want to put a better cover crop on it such as clover. Currently it has grasses on it that was being used for hay production.
So my question is how to start a cover crop on this land. Do I need to do some initial mechanical soil tillage or can I just simply lay clover seed on it?
Any advice helps. I have attached a picture so you get the idea. Its mostly pasture and I wanted to get the soil in better shape. Its a clay type and used to be cattle grazing land. My objective is to decompact it and improve fertility. MY experience in my small backyard (another location) with clover has been very good. I have seen tons of life spring from it (insects, pollinators, worms, better soil, etc).
