So many good ideas here. The referral to having protected planting areas reminds me of the value of a greenhouse, and possibly expanding it if needed. Also, the value of a cold cellar. Also, having sprout-able grains in food storage for the extra sprout nutrition, greens, etc. Goats seem to find their own fodder better than most animals I can think of.
