Biography
Living the homestead life on a 75-acre previously Amish-owned farm that was sadly neglected for a lot of years.  Tending a small orchard of blueberries, apples, peaches, plums, pears, grapes, and blackberries.  Currently own a lot of chickens, rabbits, and a herd of Brown Swiss and Hereford cattle.  Hoping to add honey bees, pigs, goats, and more poultry species in the next few years.

We have a nearly complete tiny house that we'll be living in while we renovate the old cabin we're in right now. Won't be doing a whole lot of growing this first year (mostly building soil and doing some zone 1 stuff), but we lucked out a bit as a previous owner gave us a head start with a nice pond, a spring, and a small orchard.

Not sure if you're still active on here, but I live just south of Freedom, Indiana--so we are pretty close by.  We are also working on a diamond in the rough.  We bought a 75-acre forgotten farm in November of 2015 and are slowly bringing it back to life.  Just wanted to say, "Hi! Neighbor!"  Ha.

I'm a fellow Hoosier homesteader.  Nice to know there are more Indiana people on here!  I own a 75 acre farm that is a diamond in the rough, and I'm working on bringing it back to life.  I have huge goals to make it into a self-sustaining farmstead.  Already have lots of fruit trees and canes, cattle, rabbits, and chickens.  Wanting to add bees, more poultry species, pigs, and some milk goats.

Looking forward to exploring this site!  I'm a married farm-lady in her early thirties.  I have lived on a farm my whole life, and have dreamed of a self-sufficient homestead living since I was just a little kid.  I devoured the Foxfire books when I was six and seven.  My husband and I bought a 75 acre, previously Amish-owned farm in the fall of 2015 (we moved here from a much smaller farm).  We are in the process of slowly bringing it back to life since it was sadly neglected for a lot of years.  I have a small herd (six females) of Brown Swiss and Hereford cattle, lots of chickens, meat rabbits, and an orchard with apples, peaches, plums, pears, blueberries, blackberries, and grapes.  We use a woodburning stove for heat.  In the coming years, I'd like to improve the pastures and fencing, add pigs, bees, goats, a draft horse or mule or two, turkeys, quail, ducks, and geese.  I would also like to add solar panels, a windmill, and a hand-powered water pump to the homestead. Along with a huge list of other goals.  I am very interested in learning lost skills like hide tanning, home butchering, herbal remedies, etc.  I would love to find/grow a group of likeminded nearby people to start a homestead club of sorts that meets often and discusses homesteading topics, has swap-meets for seeds, plants, livestock, handmade goods, etc, and just creates a nice feeling of being a part of something bigger.  Please feel free to reach out and say hi!  I'd love to make new friends.
