I am in Australia and have built saw bucks using doubled fencing wire to hold it together. Double the wire, wrap it around the 2 pieces to be joined, then use a screwdriver to twist from the loop to the ends. Hope that makes sense.
Just thinking of building one now, will post pics.
I just use green timber 3 to 4 inches thick.
