I'm thinking of building a cold cabinet in an area of my house that has a crawlspace (a three season porch that I plan to have insulated). My thought is to bring the temperature down to refridgeration range by using the top shelf of the cabinet for a slab of ice and making it an ice box/cold cabinet. This way perhaps I'll be able to eliminate the need for a refridgerator altogether. I will still have a freezer, but my overall energy consumption should be decreased.
