Hi have one wild persimmon. Not sure if it is diospyros lotus or Virginiana but I dug it up when it was about 2 feet tall (short due to not regular watering) and moved it to a different location. A few months passed and I saw two shoots (connected) growing in its place. The original plant is alive and so are the shoots. I am 100% sure that these shoots grew from root. So it can happen that they grow from roots. I’ve never tried actually digging up roots and making cuttings intentionally though.
