this new, almost without moving, critter started popping up. It has an uncomfortable sting (when i first unknowingly touched it) but it doesnt seem to eat my leaves.
It is in between my mint and chile combinations.

any suggestions to what it might be?

P.s. i live in Guadalajara, Mexico

Hi There,
I am looking for THE ULTIMATE authority on (soil)ecology. A (book) source which explains detailed but well structured how ecology  and soil ecology is built up.
Shedding light on the basic principles, energy, nutrient flows, actors and passive forces and more. I am firstly interested in the overview, to ensure i am not overlooking parts. But secondly more scientific and detailed information is very welcome.

Is there (offcourse there is) a (book)source that fits this description? Something that is a great foundation for understanding how ecological systems in and above ground work.

Many thanks for any reading tips!

Teun

P.s. Documentaries are also welcome, but i am primarely focussed on a booksource for now.

Hi Mercy! i think you are right! the mutalism with the ants seems to work out so... how much of a threat are those to my plants? I like to leave them at peace if that is at all an option.

Hi there,

Struggling with choosing the correct forum so sorry if there is a more accurate one...

I found these strange looking insects sitting in my chiles in my starting permaculture garden in mexico. In the attachments you can find images.

i identify basicly 3 creatures... firstly a tiny ant species, then most obviously a relatively big spiked insect, and lastly a kind of leaf-alike (but also with some spikes) instect. I found them today for the first time sitting on one of my plants. I can't really say if they are eating my plant yet... the ants seem really busy, but the other insects are kind of just sitting around.

Can somebody tell me if they are part of the same ant family, or if not... what they are, and what they do?

Any suggestion is welcome....

Many Thanks!

wow, Thank you all for your quick responses! i am gonna check out all of it

I am living in Guadalajara, Mexico (in between temperate and sub-tropical i think). Thinking about Chapala for a more permanent Food forest kind of approach. But i also have plans in the Netherlands (i am from there).
Any specific suggestions for these areas are always welcome!

Hi all,

I am completely new here and (hopefully) slowly starting a permaculture food forest. I have been wondering for a while if something like a hyperlinked comrehensive encyclopedia for permaculture plants, animals, soils, climates and more exists...

everywhere i look for information i am being told that 'a plant must serve many purposes in a permaculture design'... a book (or digital resource) which would list all (as many as humanly possible) plants, animals and other parts of the permaculture design would be great. A hyperlinked document would be even better, to investigate plants that do well together and start to integrate the design.

I imagine a book like this exists... does anybody have any good tips?

Thanks a lot!
