I lost my last attempt..lol.  
Just sharing my experience.    I evaluated the space taken in garden and the value of the harvest.  For me it was a better use of time and space to buy a 50 pound bag of potatoes at the farmers market and to use the garden space to grow a crop that costs more to buy.  I am growing sprouts, tomatoes, herbs and green onions inside this year.  I preserved a wide variety of other garden veggies.... and i have bag of 'tators in the cupboard.

I am also in southern Ontario and would like to try  Maypops too.   We grew non fruit bearing  passion fruit flowers last summer and again this year.  Last winter we cut the plant back and over wintered them in the basement

I have onions that overwinter in Ontario Canada so they are tough - called Egyptian or Winter onions.  i have continuous green onions growing in small pots in the window.  I cut off the tops and they keep regrowing all winter.
Also I have various herbs just growing in small planters on the window sill too.
