The capilary thing/tray set up may not have been articulate.  I saw it on youtube Bare Mtn.  Farm  (soil blocking).  I'm going to do some eggplant it might respond well to your method also.  

Going to try it now with slight change.  I going to try putting a waffle tray on a capilary mat and put the the solid tray (bottom) capilary mat on top and next (last) the soil blocks.  Will let you know my results.  Thanks for such a great idea of the heat factor in speeding up germination
