Hello! I am new here, but when I shared this on a local permaculture list serv someone suggested this site to spread the word more wildly.
We are selling our land in Colrain that we called home for 17 years. There is great southern exposure on this little hillside spot, a well, septic, electricity and fiber high speed internet. My husband was in charge of the plants and over the years experimented with many things gooseberries, raspberries, currants, jostaberries, jerusalum artichokes, ground cherries, some sort of giant sorrel/spinach. A couple of cherry trees that were never very productive. Some healthy autumn olive that can make a good jam!
We had recently cleared more trees and my husband had been working on terracing a southern slope with a Hugel Kulture (sp?) type approach with brush. Keeping the sumac at bay was always a project. But it's a nice little spot for creating a homestead. 15 minutes to Shelburne Falls, 45 minutes to Northampton, 4ish hours to NYC.
It's in a small town with mixed politics but we have some good neighbors - a cohousing community two miles away. A group I worked with called "West County Kindness" to promote inclusivity in our rural area.
So, why are we selling? We had a major house fire in December 2022 and the home on the property needs to be torn down. We need a fresh start elsewhere after the trauma of the fire and dealing with insurance companies. But would love to see someone pick up where we left off and rebuild on the site.
