A pure bred phrases if not born on a working farm can seem lazy tend to be sedentary as they guard your heard.  Where pure bred maremmas if born on a working farm are more active following the herd rather than watching it for threats. Don't  get me wrong both are very protective when a threat is perceived. We have had both breeds as house dogs. Anything coming in the driveway they perceived as a threat ie Amazon, ups, FedEx. When we go out to receive packages the phrases would protect by putting himself between his foock(family members) and the delivery driver waiting to see if the threat was real never actually went after a driver. The maremma on the other hand in the same scenario has been known to nock down a family member walking out to recieve packages an sit on them or stand in front of them barking and ready to attack if driver came to close. The maremma is a much more aggressive breed. We have since lost our pyranese and were able to find a 100% pyranese father, who bred with a maremma that had 1/8 anitolian Shepard only 6 months old now but already staying up all night on guard in the house doing laps every hour or so looking for threats and already alerting if delivery truck pulls in seem like a great mix of guardians with the instinct but not quite as aggressive as our pure bred maremma
