Thanks for the reply Joao, about how many onion bulbs does the original onion divide into at your garden? Do you use any fertilizations?

When I lifted that bunch of onions in the above picture I quickly realized their dome-shaped growing pattern made a really nice home for slugs...

I was curious if anyone else grew this way:

Last autumn I had some stored onions begin to send out new growth. I thought it would be fun to plant the whole Onion and watch it. As the bulbs began to divide I lifted some, divided the bulbs, and replanted them. Others I left alone. When harvest time arrived I noted that both groups of onions were very uniform in size compared to years past when I would start from seed.

Does anyone have any tip/tricks they've discovered growing this way?
Has anyone dealt with PRR issues growing this way?

A neighbor helped me with this issue. He said to take orange peels and face them pulp-side down onto the soil and come back the next morning and the pillbugs would be congregated underneath. He was absolutely correct and after a few days of doing this I was able to lessen the rolypoly threat enough for the seedlings to survive. I have also tried protecting seedlings by cutting toilet paper rolls to create small protective collars around the seedlings and I haven't lost a seedling yet by using the collars. I imagine you can use other types of fruit to lure the pillbugs, either way it is a great feeling picking up the piece of fruit covered in pillbugs and throwing it really far away from the garden.

I had never heard of this flying dragon tree, thank you for letting me know. I imagine you have to wear thick clothes when pruning!

I have a citrus tree similar looking, very thorny and very painful. It rarely produces any oranges and when it does, they are super sour. I was talking to an arborist and he said that my tree was overtaken by its rootstock. He said I should cut my tree down and plant something else in its place. I just wanted to let you know.

Hey Clay, any updates on your onions and garlic? I'd love to see a picture update!

Hi guys, I live in zone 10b and I'd like to share my experience. I've been experimenting with onion growing for several years now and last year's crop turned out really good. I have been starting my short-day onions by sewing the seeds in 4" pots around September 1st. I have been planting garlic into the ground around this time as well. By mid October the seeds have sprouted and I plant them out into the garden that has been given some compost and rock phosphate. This year I spaced them 8" apart, last year I did 6"with nice results. I'll spread some compost over them this winter and again in early spring if I have enough. I've been harvesting them in June and onward.

I'm having a hard time with some of them getting black mold while being stored, both tied on an onion string and stored in a reusable potato bag. This year I'm really going to focus on the drying and curing process.

Does anyone have a good method of harvesting and drying onions for storage without them developing rot?
