Stay away from from growing Russian Olive or Autumn Olive. They propagate like wildfire! What makes it particularly bad is that deer love to eat the berries and wherever they poop, another bush grows… and on top of that, if you try to pull them out any bit of root left regrows the bush. You can make jam and jelly from the berries but I wouldn’t want to. I’ve tasted the berries and they have a medicinal flavor. Sure, a lot of sugar could make it work but I don’t think it would get rid of the medicinal taste. Autumn Olives aren’t native to Northern America either. Their rapid multiplication displaces native species. They’ve become a significant problem in Michigan.
