A few have mentioned brew kettles for home brewing, which is what I use. Additionally, I had one made into a still. Allegedly you can distill things other than water. Never tried. 😁

I think I have 5 or 6 in my house now between different breweries that I’ve made and the still.

I've got a colleague who's wife is Korean, and we were talking at work one day about his garden and what things they grow and use, etc..  The conversation turned to foraging and he said that they forage for bracken fern.  He was very excited when I told him that my father-in-laws property has acres of it in northern MI that he's free to come and grab his fill (which he did last spring.)

When I was wandering the property sending him pictures to verify that it was what he wanted, I also came across a plot of Osterich Ferns.  Apparently my FIL's mother planted them in the eighties.  Having never had fiddleheads (Ostrich or braken!) I hope to be on the property this spring at the right time when they come up, so I can give them a try!  We've got 40 acres, so easy enough to spread them to a few different locations on the property to insure they stay around.

Any issues w the deposits sitting in an “unfilled” state for some time?

We have some family hunting property that we use infrequently. There might be 20 deposits a year, as we have condos nearby for facilities.

Currently we have a hole. Periodically my father in law will dig it out, and honestly I think he flings it into the woods. Basically a bench w a hole over a hole in the ground.

I’d like to make something a bit more elegant. At a minimum about of the weather!

Were I to make a proper outhouse w a bucket or other solution:
1. If it was used and just left for a month or two, is that OK?  Or would I need to empty before leaving?
2. Is there a minimum use you’d recommend for a humanure solution?  Ie, with our use case, I’m assuming that it’d be several years of deposits before any usable pile would be generated for appropriate composting. Any input/comments?

In the next decade, I’ll very likely build a guest cabin on the property and retire to my lake condo about 10 minutes away. At that point there would likely be enough usage to make a true humanure solution.
