Does anybody know where I can find good construction or detailed plans on building a loom that they used historically in South America, Egypt, India, etc.? Backstrap for example. I've read many books which describe loosely how its built but no detailed construction guide. For example, this is how the loom is described in Peru:
"In many communities, the weaver wraps one end of the loom around her waist with a strap. She secures the other end of the loom in one of two ways depending on the community: In some communities, the weaver ties the far end bar to two posts hammered into the ground; in other communities, the weaver ties the far loom bar with a rope to a tree or post. In some communities, weavers use a third type of loom where both ends are tied to four stakes hammered into the ground. The weaver sits in front of one end to weave; she does not need to strap herself in." The Four stake method sounds most desirable as are not limited by width.
