I’ve had luck rubbing a tiny bit of oil off on a rag before drawing so the stick isn’t slippery but still gives that rich, draggy line. If you want softer edges, warming the oiled charcoal in your hand for a minute makes it glide more. I also keep a few pieces in a small jar of oil so they stay ready to go without turning into rocks.
