I will describe myself and what I am looking for in a man. I thought this might be worth trying on here!

I am a homesteader, trying to live differently within the reality of the world we live in. It is important to me to live in a way that embodies what I believe in, but I don't do this perfectly. It is always a process finding balance. I live off-grid with some amenities, but simpler than most (I don't have a cel phone, but I do use a laptop).  Motherhood and my children are very important to me, and I live with my two youngest children, my wonderful 15 year old daughter and 9 year old son. I also have an 18 year old son and a 20 year old daughter who live on their own now, but are definitely still a part of my life.

I like to spend time with friends and my children and I spend time working on various projects. I like to learn and do traditional skills like knitting, making fermented foods (kefir, yogurt, sour kraut, etc), garden and store/put up food, harvest wild food, work on building-related projects, and make clothing. I like to talk with friends, take long walks, hike, make good simple meals, learn new skills, and read. I like to listen to thunderstorms, and drink tea by hot woodstoves in winter or outside every summer morning.

I like to be frugal and make things myself when I can. I really like to read and have good conversation. I like to laugh, and joy is important, but I can be very serious and passionate when talking about something I really believe in. I am very loving. I am at home in my own body and feel happy to be learning and changing and becoming more myself every day. I am seeking a deep loving lifelong connection with a man.

Where I live there are beautiful forested ridges and valleys with wide rivers. I live in an alternative rural area, with many folks who homestead and live off grid but others who live in town. I have done both, but love living in the country with the quiet and the birds and foxes and clear dark skies at night. I feel lucky to live in this unique place.

I am a homeschool teacher working with other area families, but I am also training to be a homebirth midwife and when I am certified in 1.5 years or so I will stop teaching. Right now my life is busy, and I have less time for projects on my homestead than I would like!

I take walks most days. I love hearing owls at night and the sandhill cranes flying through our valley.

I would like a homesteading partner here on my land, a masculine man who is gentle, deeply kind, compassionate, honest, patient, humble, and loving. Monogamous only. Someone with strong principles but who does not expect perfection from themselves or others. A man who is willing to really go out of his way to be there for those he loves. A man that is not a consumer, who actively seeks to buy used things or make his own. I would like a man who is a Maker. That might be furniture, wooden spoons, a builder of natural houses, or many other possibilities. A man who actively creates as part of his way of life. I also want a man who wants to be in a fathering type role and has compassion for children and young adults, knowing they are trying to find their way and it is sometimes messy. I want a man who likes to think and talk with me. I am not a mainstream person in a number of ways and I would like a man who is also not a mainstream person. I am not interested in pop culture, television, mainstream movies, politics, or big sports. I do not vaccinate. I would like a man who is willing and happy to work outside on homesteading tasks and projects.

I would like an honest close relationship based also on friendship, respect, admiration, love, and joy being together. Both people should come with honesty and willingness to examine their own part in any conflict. It is best if both people have already begun working on healing, change, repair in their own lives to be able to come together with someone else in a beautiful loving way. Ideally a relationship would be very loving, with a lot of touch, passion, and thoughtfulness and laughter and support. Strong connection verbally, emotionally, and physically. The ability to enjoy life together, to explore new things, teach each other, live simply and deeply and joyfully.

I am open to men from 5 years younger to 5 years older, or close to that.

When you respond, please also include a photo. I don't give out email and phone until I feel comfortable.

Hope we all find the right person!

Emily

I realized I should add that I do not want to move. I own land here in WI, I love where I live, and my children are settled here.

Look forward to more responses! You are also welcome to ask me questions.

Thanks to those who have sent me a purple mooseage and to all the likes. Much appreciated! I think it would actually be better to just respond to this post, instead of a PM first, because then any questions I can answer and others can see it too. If it makes sense we can move on to sending PMs.

It would be really great since I have put a lot of effort into explaining who I am and what I want, that if you are genuinely interested you would write me at least a paragraph about yourself and what you want. And a picture, please! It helps to see you are a real person.

Again, thank you, and I look forward to hearing back from more people!

Emily

Hi Emily! You said you'd prefer someone reply to this post, and I'm surprised noone has yet. What you're looking for sounds nice, and your picture is very charming. I may not be what you're looking for, but I find you interesting so it's at least worth a shot. My name is Peter. I'm 37. If I take another week of living this consumerist, capitalist, modern lifestyle, I'll lose my mind or myself or some other major part of me important to my health and well-being. I want to live the next half of my life differently, something more off-grid and natural and free. I'm new to such a lifestyle but I'm hard-working and eager to learn. I want to spend days reading, building, fixing, walking, gardening, etc. I have a son who is grown up. I love books and music and the night sky. You said a paragraph, so I won't ramble on for now, but I will post a picture. Maybe you'll look at me and feel as tickled as I did when I saw yours.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your response, and for giving me a paragraph and a picture! It made me laugh to hear you were tickled by my picture. I would be interested to talk more with you. I will send you a purple mooseage. You are younger than I was thinking, but I am also open to possibility. The most important thing to me is common interests and values and a strong connection.

Emily

Good evening Ms Emily
I hope that you are safe from the winter storm and that all is well for you and your family. I just wanted to touch base and if you are doing ok. Always interested in your projects and goals, I would definitely post a picture.......if I can figure it out. I am a technological neanderthal to be perfectly honest. I have been watching the weather so I suspect you are getting tons of snow. Best wishes and I will look forward to your response

Hi Styme,

Yes, we are well. We had winter storms last week here but now just a lot of very cold temps! The one water pipe I have under the house that comes from my ram pump to a sink keeps freezing so I have gone down there every morning the past 4 mornings with boiling water and towels to unfreeze it. It does not take too long though. I appreciate the cold weather.

To do a picture, when you are writing look just below at the attachments and click on that. There will be a spot to upload a file. Click on that and you should be able to take a picture from your computer. You just have to make sure you have a picture on your computer ready to use.

Thanks for writing!
Emily

Having a good summer, always a lot going on. I've started training to be an out of hospital midwife, which I love, but takes a good amount of my time. I am still looking for the right man!

I've noticed it can be difficult to find a homesteader my age who is willing to move, many of us already have an established homestead! So I am still looking for the right man. I have heard from a few men in their 30s, and I am tentatively open to that depending on the person, but experience and maturity are very important. If you have a lot of homesteading experience, or fathering experience, that means a lot to me, and is more important than age.

You are also welcome to ask me questions!

Hi Emily.
You sound very nice.
I lived in Wisconsin for around 15 years, in the Madison area. Now in southern Illinois, but will be coming north over the next month to see family.
I have a background in intuitive healing (ThetaHealing), but I've recently reverted to working as an interpreter (of Japanese)
Daily yoga practice. 60yrs.
From the description, I'm guessing that you're probably in the Gays Mills area or farther north.
Regards,
Daniel

From what you said, I wish we could have met, but i felt encouraged that someone like you is out there. My kids are grown, and I home schooled as m7ch as I could. I'm 49 until May and live in the Southern rockies of New Mexico. All my vehicles are well built,  but homemade,  as is my home, solar, and water. I've built 8 houses in the last 16 years and have been hoping I'm building my last now. I made the chainsaws I used to mill the lumber for the house also. I should not be starting any kind of relationship though, although it is nice to reach out a little. I was given 6 months to live after 8 months of chemo unless I took a bone marrow transplant,  radiation, and more chemo. I chose not to and eat vitamins and apricot seeds. That was over 6 years ago, and now I'm building a house. I always wanted a big, close family that worked together. I love exploring the forest I live in and off of, but the better part of my energy is gone at the days end now and I fear i can't start over again and live up to what someone like you deserves somewhere else

Hi Daniel, thank you for reaching out, and for your kindness. I am about a 45 min from Gays Mills. Madison is a nice city. I am not sure what Theta healing is? I want to be direct and say I am hesitant to date anyone 10 years older than me. I hope you understand.

Best wishes on your life journey!

Emily

Scott,

Thank you for writing. You seem to have a lot of skills! I can't even imagine building a chainsaw and what that would entail. It sounds like you are very settled where you are, which is understandable. That is a lot of houses you have built! I am very sorry to hear about your health, although it sounds like you are stronger than they expected. A big close family that works together is a lovely dream. I hope you have friends and community where you are to offer you support and work with you.

Very much wishing you well,

Emily

I've never been to Wisconsin. From what you described, it sounds like a beautiful place. Yes. We both sound quite settled.  Even if I didn't have my land, I raised my children here and wouldn't leave as long as they're near. My son wants to come back and raise his family nearby also. But I have always wanted to see and explore the Michigan u.p. if only I was younger,  lol.

Are you okay? You look a little big. Maybe this tiny ad will help:
