I came up with a very simple odorless, waterless toilet design that works great!
I've been using it for about a year in my motor home with no problems.
I used a 5 gallon bucket with the snap on seat for camping and added a 12v computer fan to the bottom and side. The fan exhausts out the vertical vent pipe made for the conventional water flush toilet.
The fan dries the feces by up to 75%. There is almost no smell as the toilet is flushing constantly during and between uses. For my one person use I have about 1/3 bag of dried feces to empty every 3 weeks.
Inside the bucket I use a paper grocery bag inside of a heavy plastic bag. I like this better then bio-bags which I used at first. The paper bags bio digest and the plastic bag remains in the bucket a number of times before it gets recycled. I cut a whole in both bags in front of the fan and tape 1/2 of a paper plate over the whole to keep the fan clean. I never have to stir. Clean up is not messy or smelly. I usually find an out of the way place to bury the bag, but it could be added to humanure pile.
I don't see why this design shouldn't work well in a home or could stand alone outside. The venting could be horizontal as long as it takes the odor away from the use area. The odor from the end of the vent is not intense for long since the feces crusts over quickly.
I keep urine and paper separate but sometimes for guests put I put some straw in the bottom and add a second plastic bag for the extra moisture of the urine. I Let them add the paper too. When I do this I have to empty every 2-3 days.
My 12V comes off my solar system but a small solar panel and or small battery could power the 80 ma fan easily.
