I have a friend whose hoop house just has long pvc conduit (maybe 3/4") with a piece of rebar through one end that acts like a handle to turn the pvc. Then it is just a matter of securing the rebar when you have the side the height that you want. Pretty amazing how simple it is. not sure how the pvc is attached to the plastic cover. One cool thing about it is that it is pretty light and didn't seem to take much effort to roll it up. I hope this helps.

Thank you Paul. I will forge on! I will be adding dropped black walnut branches and holly tree branches to another hugelkultur. I'll post as it comes along. Thank you again for your response.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using eastern hemlock in a hugelkultur? I was thinking of planting blueberries on it and was wondering if anyone knew if it was allelopathic or rot resistant. I have read that it is not good for shingles or outdoor use, which leads me to believe that it will rot just fine.

That is a good question. I also wonder if planting fruit trees, or a garden over a septic drain field would pose any health risks. I think planting over a septic tank, is that the tank will have to be emptied at some point, and the honey-dippers would wind up dragging their vacuum hose over your garden. I imagine it is not the cleanest of hoses. Also, I might speculate that any of the deeper rooting plants would try to get directly into the solid waste of the septic tank. Maybe this would pose a health risk. Anybody else have any ideas on these questions?
