Why use Cob? What are the advantages and disadvantages? What are substitutes? Looking into building a Rocket mass heater in South Western Michigan (anyone in my neck of the woods who has some expertise?).

Looking to by design that has already been built in major city and could be permitted in Michigan. Does anyone consult on this or have information on how the process would go?

I'm curious if someone in this forum knows of a licened contractor or expert who would construct or oversea a rocket mass heater build in Clackamas county Oregon? I was contemplating buying some plans and introducing and paying to have it built at my mom's place (The house is paid for, not sure how that affects permitting and insurance). Her old oil heating system needs a new tank and I'd like to see her go in a different direction, but don't want it to be amateur hour. She also is constantly going with out heat to save money and would like her to be able to heat her home in a more efficient way.

After reading all of these posts I am officially discouraged. Was contemplating building a RMH in an existing home in Michigan. Sounds like you have no shot at doing it above board to code so you can insure the house. If anyone can give me a vine of hope how I could pull this off under 3k that would be grand. I'm looking for advice on putting in a rocket stove for an existing house. I have a concern that the house will smell like smoke. Was also hoping someone could give advice on how I should proceed on this project (buying design? Where to get professional help or websites that have quality instruction).
