Thanks for the replies
Our new plot is a 2 acre suburban lot in zone 5b, elevation of about 90m above sea level.
It is a very narrow and deep lot
The front yard is a typical suburban frontyard, a city ditch, grass.
The back yard is mostly the same until you reach the back. There it is a young ash forest that has been heavily damaged by the ash borer.
There is a lot of material there for soil building.
The soil is heavy grey clay, our yard seems to be a sink for the whole block with a lot of water passing through before it hits the river at the very back.
The pool question was mostly answered by researching last night, however the perspective of those experienced in permaculture could be valuable.
The pool is your standard suburban small in ground chlorinated pool 20 to 30 years old. I was worried about the effect the Chlorine water will have on the soil, the water table, the river where the water eventually drains to and the effect on future food growth. Some scientific papers seemed to say don’t worry about it so I may not rush to have it fixed.
I was also wondering about sanitization systems for this type of pool that don’t require the chemical additions.
The attached image is a a few years old, for interpretation street level is 10 to 29 feet above the centre of the property, it then rises another 10 to 15 feet at the back and slopes down toward the river in the back, (only visible in the image as a little algae). The river is actually quite large and drains into the St Lawrence. North is at tho top of the image.
