THE BCOLLECTIVE 5-acre permaculture homestead is located on the Olympic Peninsula, near Port Townsend, WA.  We have been sculpting this land for about 15 years and are seeking the perfect co-inspirators for the years ahead.  We have a 24’ yert available for you to land in, and we look forward to getting to know eachother. We are looking for a permaculture-oriented family with young children to run and play and learn with our 6-year old son.

What follows is a more detailed description of our practices and philosphies at the BCollective (in no particular order.)  If this describes you too, then we would like to meet you!

Ideally, you:

HAVE A CREATIVE PRACTICE
You understand that arts and creativity play a crucial role in life and in community building, activism, and nature connection.  You identify as artists:  painters, potters, dancers, musicians, performance artists, weavers, jewelrymakers, storytellers, singers, writers, sculptors, filmmakers, or mosaicists, etc.  This list is NOT meant to be exclusive.  The important thing is that you love to play and create in all that you do.

DESIRE TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY
You are committed to community building work because it is an integral part of the process of regenerating culture.  You understand that the rewards of community life are proportionate to the depth of the challenges.  Because we know most of us grew up in a cultural climate that encourages hyper-individualism, we expect that living in community will push our boundaries in ways not often anticipated, and yet, we are drawn towards it anyways as vital and gratifying culture-shifting work.

EAT A LOCAL, NUTRIENT DENSE DIET
Food is a central feature of your life and pivot point for your family and community.  You understand that meals, food preparation, harvest, planting, animal caretaking have long been the foundation of family and village and that food is the primary way that we meet our nutritional as well as social needs.  You eat a high-quality, organic, local, Paleo/Weston A. Price diet.  You invest a solid portion of your time in food-related things, and you enjoy creating a mealtime culture that is fun and friendly.

ARE COMMITTED TO RAISING NATURE-CONNECTED CHILDREN
You are a family with young children, and are involved in crafting and supporting an alternative education path for your children   You value a forested setting where children can spend unstructured time together and are encouraged to follow their interests in various tasks on the homestead and beyond, tapping into the many local resources in our area for homeschooling/unschooling/folkschooling/Waldorf education.

ARE ATTRACTED TO LIFE IN A RURAL SETTING
You like living in a location convenient to town, but not IN town.  You value being/working/living with others on a quiet, peaceful property that is more independent from the pace of city life, as well further from the “conveniences” of city life, because of the deeper connection and intimacy this creates. You consider the interdependence and resourcefulness that such an “outside the box” life engenders to be a desirable feature, rather than a burden on one’s independence.

ARE A STABLE FAMILY WITH SOLID A ETHICAL FOUNDATION
Your family is in stable, yet dynamic, relationship, financially and interpersonally speaking.
You tend to stick with things and see them through, in direct contrast to the broader culture which encourages disposable relationships with just about everything.  You cultivate a strong committment to ethical behavior and respect of agreements, with the understanding that we are all in this together—the movement to regenerate culture requires that all of us thrive.  You are seeking a win-win-win situation!

COME WITH SKILLS TO SHARE
You have various skills useful on a homestead such as carpentry, permaculture design, natural building, tinkering, rotational grazing, butchering, gardening, smithing, herbalism, weaving, etc. etc. etc.  You are resourceful and self-motivated, and are excited about creating on-farm income streams.

Hello Merry---->>>>

That coop looks awesome---exactly what we are looking for! But I can't seem to access the Blogger photos. (Says I do not have "permission" to view). Also I have so many questions, like "is it easy to clean? What does the inside look like? Woukd it work for ducks, or just chickens?" etc. etc.

I would love to talk to the builder of this coop sometime. Is that you? Or, if not, maybe you could put us in touch with the builder/designer?

Thanks a million!--->>>>nala

We are in the design stage for a duck / chicken coop at our homestead and wanted to put the word out for practical, inexpensive, and easy to build ideas. We are considering strawbale coops, and also pallet coops.

We live off-grid in western Washington. Winters are mild with only a few days or weeks below freezing per year. But, days in the winter are short! Our power system is small and we cannot run an incandescent light bulb for heat or light.

We like the idea of a strawbale coop. I've Googled it, and I found a post by some folks in Ireland who were raving about them. They said their animals were warm and cozy all winter in there. However, there weren't any photos or descriptions of the design. Can anyone else testify on strawbale poultry houses?

Any photos, drawings, experiences with strawbale or pallet poultry houses would be appreciated.

Thanks-->>nalawalla | http://www.Bcollective.org
