Hmmm...I really like the buck fence. Very rustic. And it looks like you don't have to bury the bucks in the ground? They just sit there? might be easier to source trees with straight enough logs for this type of fence too...and no oil would be a big plus...the more I dwell on the oil idea, the more I dislike it....

I am thinking of fencing my property by cutting appropriate sized trees/limbs and making a nice rustic natural fence...and then using old motor oil from oil changes gone by to "paint" the wood and treat it...I know people that have the motor oil thing..any thoughts on this?

Thanks, I will try to post some pics of my land tomorrow, I have a post in the RMH section for my heater I will be making....the biggest setback for me is finances...being dependant on the grid and barely getting by makes it difficult to progress...but I will slowly emanciapte myself..I enjoy simple life, and at same time its perfectly possible to enjoy modern conveniences to an extent, so I look forward to the transition!

Hi all, I am relatively new to permaculture, though for several years I had interest in several aspects of it...I have plans to turn my home into an effient and fun place live! I hope to be able to share my progress as I transform my home into independent and energy effient wonderland! Plans I have for the immediate future are finish my rocket heater, and incorporating hugelkutur into my raised bed garden, and building my first greenhouse! I have 2 acres of land, 1 of which is woods. I want to fence it all in, and then begin cleaning are garbage (literally, as surrounding subdivisions that surround my little oasis use my woods as a dumping ground). I am very excited in my plans. Eventually, when money permits I want add solar and wind to my home and un-grid myself....so cheers to homesteading!!

That's one thing I'm worked about is nitrogen being robbed...but I'm hoping that compost will help offset that, and eventually the decomposition process will begin to put nitrogen BACK in the soil...
