Do you have any experience with feeding a chestnut/hazelnut mix to layers or broilers. It strikes me, while you rotate in a leader/follow system you could supplement the chickens with this mix for at least while the chestnuts lasted.
Which leads to the next question. What do you do to make chestnuts last longer and how long do your hazelnuts last in their shells?
You also talk in your book about supplying homegrown grains to chickens at a rate of 4 acres per 4000 broilers. That number of acres is very low compared to other producers. What breeds of chickens do you recommend? And in a savanna system how much of the chickens diet can be substituted?
