I'm a 43 year old gay man who as a result of the recession and a mid-life "crisis" that caused me to rethink everything I'd ever learned -- has moved to a 1/2 acre property near Joshua Tree, California and am committed to carving out an organic/permaculture homestead on the premises. I'm a complete novice - brand new at this. I'm also single, and open to friends (or partners) who want to come along on the journey. Teach me something I don't already know about permaculture. You've got a lot to choose from.
So I take possession of my property and the two bedroom two bath 1986 constructed 1,280 square foot home in the style of American Tract -- on FEBRUARY 1st.
The whole place needs work. What should I do first?

Please let me know. I need some direction and call upon my gay and lesbian and trans brothers and sisters and comrades to assist me.
