Thanks so much Paul for all your wonderful work putting together Permies.com and all the dedicated people living the permaculture life. Welcome Sepp to Loma Mar where I will be attending your workshop.
I live on Maui's south/southwest side where from sea level to 10,000 ft. is lined with cindercones. Most of the time is very dry. So the landscape is steep with loads of volcanic cinder. Highly erodible when no grass (kuyu mostly) is not growing. A lot of open land and people who do live there have little or no county water. I have Sepp's books and DVD and now realize that I can do permaculture with just the rainwater. Will do swales, huglekultur, but ponds are difficult as so much cinder and little clay. Am going to do without liners. When digging into the earth, as soon as the grass is removed major erosion happens. Common in Hawaii. I'll be working on various friends acreages and also gorilla planting as there is so much open land on this part of Maui. Will be working on one acreage (about 6 acres) that I want to be an example site so others in the area can see that food forests can be created with just the rainwater. Stop the water wars! This site is at about 3,000 ft. elevation. Average rainfall varies greatly, but I'll say around 20 inches/year, although in the past 10 months on this site there was 2 inches. Briefly, that's my situation. Any feedback is much appreciated. The workshop is going to be awesome.
Thank you so much Sepp for visiting this area and spreading your incredible wisdom and presence. I have learned so much from you already. Definitely life changing. Hoping Paul will be attending also. Mahalo and Aloha.
